During the summer, parents are always looking for ways to keep the kids entertained on a budget. And, on a hot day, there’s nothing better than an air-conditioned theater with a family-friendly flick on the big screen.
Going to the movies can be an expensive adventure, so bargain hunters and frugal film fanatics alike are always on the lookout for discounted tickets. Lucky for them, five theaters are offering free and cheap summer movies for families in summer 2021.
Here’s what’s playing on multiplexes around the country for family fun on the cheap in 2021:
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema: Stake your spot at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Summer Kids Camp. All Kids Camp tickets are $3 each for kids of all ages — even adults. Each week brings a new selection of family-friendly movies, from recent animated favorites to timeless classics.
Most screenings are ages 3 and up. However, some locations allow all ages. The chain’s famous no talking/texting policies still apply, and noisy families may be asked to leave.
The series runs all summer, from June to August. Titles, dates and showtimes vary by market.
AMC Theatres: Mark your calendar for Tuesdays this summer. AMC Theatres offers Discount Tuesdays, with tickets starting at just $6.50. In many cases, it’s a savings of 50% from regular ticket prices.
On Tuesdays, the chain also offers a $5 combo special at the concession stand. Both offers are only open to loyalty club members.
The chain has yet to announce any summer movies series for 2021, as it has offered in the past.
Cinemark: From June 16 to Aug. 4, every Wednesday, Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse opens its doors for frugal families with eight flicks for just $1.50 each.
Families can save even more with $1 off deals on kids’ snack packs, large popcorns and large drinks during Summer Movie Clubhouse showtimes.
Harkins Theatres: For six weeks, Harkins Theatres’ Family Fun Series offers a different kid-friendly flick with two showtimes daily at most locations. The cost is just $3 per ticket. The series runs from June 11 to July 22.
Plus, parents can save 50% on a Kids Combo pack Monday through Friday before 6 p.m.
Both offers are only open to loyalty club members. The theater chain has locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas.
Regal Cinemas: For 10 weeks, every Tuesday and Wednesday, families can jump aboard Regal Cinemas’ Summer Movie Express for inexpensive family fun. Tickets are just $1 each. The series runs from June 1 to Aug. 4 at most locations.
It’s important to note that not all locations participate in the summer fun within any given movie theater chain. Be sure to check your area, before loading up the kids in the minivan.
