Walmart has low prices on so many items — but are they really the cheapest game in town? I decided to put the superstore to the test, using the Shopsavvy App, to discover which purchases are cheapest at Walmart. If you’re looking for a good buy, I’ve rounded up 10 everyday items from Walmart that rival the competition’s equivalent on price.

Aveeno Clear Complexion
If Aveeno is your skincare go-to, you can save by getting your favorite cleanser at Walmart. Aveeno’s Clear Complexion foam cleanser was available at Walmart for less than at Target or Amazon. It’s not big savings at about $0.35 less, but every little bit adds up.
Dove Go Fresh Deodorant Dry Spray
Don’t get sweaty running from store to store to find your favorite Dove deodorant on sale. Walmart came in first on price over Target, pricing their bottles at $6.14.
American Crew Classic Firm Hold Styling Gel
Fans of American Crew Styling Gel can rejoice. The gel will help your locks stay put while locking up the lowest price at Walmart. They again trump Target by over $3, with the Walmart price coming in at $10.80 and Target’s at $13.99.
Clariol Nice’n Easy Permanent Hair Color Crème
If you dye your hair on a regular basis or just get a color pick-me-up every so often, consider picking up Clariol. I found it at Walmart for only $4.73.
SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Shampoo
Keep your locks hydrated for less, just by shopping at the right store. Get savings of $1.05 on this cult favorite hydrating shampoo if you pick it up at Walmart for $8.94, instead of at Target for $9.99.
Energizer Max Batteries AA
It’s a good idea to stock up on batteries because you always want to have some on hand in an emergency like a power outage. If your flashlight doesn’t work, you’re stuck in the dark. You can also be stuck paying high prices to purchase more when you’re in a pinch. Walmart has a 24-pack of AA batteries for only $16.24 — hefty savings when compared to Target’s smaller 20-pack, which sells for $15.99.
Ajax Ultra Triple Action Orange Liquid Dish Soap
Know that when you cut back the grease when rising pots and pans, you are also cutting back on how much you spend. Grab a 52 oz. bottle for less when you shop soap at Walmart and not Target or Amazon. Compared to Amazon, Walmart offers this classic soap for a whopping $8.80 less!
Q-tips Cotton Swabs Anti-Bacterial
Though not recommended for your ears, cotton swabs are great for cleaning hard-to-reach places like buttons on an office phone or a television remote control. They’re also great for applying makeup and can be used for craft projects. I think of them as a household staple. Get a 300-count pack of Q-tips’ anti-bacterial swabs for $2.47 at Walmart, compared to $2.97 on Amazon.
Centrum Multivitamin/Multimineral
Your mother may have told you to take your vitamins, but she might have forgotten to tell you that they cost less at Walmart. You can score a 130-count pack that contains one bottle of 100 vitamins and the other with 30 vitamins, a deal that isn’t even offered at Target or Amazon.
Eucerin Daily Hydration Broad Spectrum 15 SPF Body Lotion
Keep your skin protected and your cash in your pocket, when you purchase your Eucerin lotion at Walmart. Walmart sells a 16.9 oz. bottle for $9.54.
Unless you’re an avid couponer or you have your finger on the pulse of a store’s markdown schedule, head over to Walmart for the items listed above. Their budget-friendly finds on everyday items might crystallize your decision to shop there on a regular basis.

Amazon beats Wal-Mart on CeRave
Walmart may beat Target for regular prices, BUT Target has the Cartwheel app where you can save another 5-50% on items each week – usually name brand. AND you can then add in RedCard savings of another 5% off, and also stack manufacturer’s and Target’s online coupons (different than Cartwheel) and their “buy two, get a $5 gift card” or “spend $25 on beauty, get $5 off” deals. They used to have the 5% off your entire purchase for Rx Rewards, but now that CVS bought the pharmacies out, you can’t do that.
But in the long run, I always save lots of money at Target over Walmart. Not only that, but even Walmart’s name brands (at WM or Sams) are not always the same as what you buy at Target. I have proven this over and over with underwear, bras, socks, sewing supplies, etc. Manufacturers make lower quality items just for Walmart. I will never purchase a food item that’s been specially made for WM. Those items might cost less, but they are not the same.
Walmart just drives me nuts in terms of junky, dirty stores, clearance area disasters, and very poor service. They are not even in the same league as Target. On top of the savings above, Target always has multiple clearance endcaps where prices go 30%, 50%, 75%, and then 90% (if you can catch it) off. They are sorted by department and easy to shop. WM’s clearance are usually not – like 50 cents off a $15 item, and everything (but seasonal) is all thrown together. They never re-mark their clearance, unlike Target who does it weekly. I have seen sewing items at our store that have had the same price now for six months. I recently went to a different WM that I hadn’t been to in 10 months and the same items were on the shelves for the same price.

Our Walmart is very clean and organized. Many things in their brand name are good and less expensive than any other place I have shopped. Do check out Dollar Tree if it is in your area. They beat even Walmart on some of their items.
$9.00 for a bottle of shampoo is a deal?! I’ve got an 18 oz bottle of Nature’s Gate (which is a great brand) that was a Kroger markdown for $1.99. I’ve also got an 18 oz bottle of Spa-Haus tea tree shampoo from Big Lots that was less than $3. Both brands are without animal products or testing.
