Whether you’re looking for decorating ideas for your home, camping how-tos or scrapbooking techniques, you’ve got quite a few ways to try something new on the cheap. During hands-on craft events and expert-led workshops at major retailers, you can participate in jewelry-making demos, find out how to cook for a crowd or over an open fire, create-your-own card and more. Even better: The events are FREE or require only a small fee, giving you the chance to try before you buy the supplies to tackle the projects on your own. Days and times may vary by location and some events may require an RSVP, so check with the store nearest you before you head out.

Here’s a sampling of the events:

Jennifer Maciejewski

Jennifer Maciejewski writes about anything that piques her curiosity, with profiles and service pieces ranking among her favorites. In 2008, she created Atlanta on the Cheap to teach herself how to blog and use social media plus create an easy way to tell people about fun (and often free) things to do in the ATL. What started as a side project soon became her primary business, and in 2011, she added RVA (Richmond) on the Cheap to the mix. She spends her free time exploring all that Atlanta and Richmond, her hometown, have to offer (on the cheap, of course).

  1. Thank you. What about online? I live in the boonies far away from those stores.

  2. Hi, Ruth. Keep an eye on Living on the Cheap’s Home & Garden page. We’ll be posting ideas for free & cheap crafts there. Earlier this month, we posted about turning old magazines into cool bowls, and I’m sure we’ll be including other fun pieces about entertaining & decorating on a budget. Thanks for reading Living on the Cheap!
